Welcome!

Welcome to the Being Mobile website. This website promotes the concept of Virtual Mobility in Higher Education and aims to raise awareness about how European cooperation in education can be heightened through Virtual Mobility activities.

Virtual Mobility

According to the e-learningeuropa portal, Virtual Mobility means: “The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to obtain the same benefits as one would have with physical mobility but without the need to travel”.
Indeed, through the use of ICT, students and teachers can experience international exchanges of expertise while staying at home. As mobility and internationalisation are becoming increasingly important in today’s society, this is a significant evolution for those not able to enjoy any physical exchange.

Prof. Ray Land about Virtual Mobility
Posted: 15 Nov 2006
Professor Ray Land of the university of Strathclyde will be one of the key note speakers at the Virtual Mobility Forum. He will be speaking about "The Next Generation of e-Learning: Time, Mobility and Identity"

"The new Web 2.0 applications, such as wikis, blogs, social software and mobile technologies, provide exciting new authoring, networking and community-building capabilities, but the pedagogical and social implications of these are still largely unexplored. They present the higher education community, and their organisations, with far-reaching challenges relating to the digital literacies, pedagogies and assessment practices we might need to adopt in these new spaces. Issues relating to how students might cope with issues of speed, multiple temporality and virtual social mobility will be addressed." (Prof. Ray Land)
